  • Moroccan Tea: This is one of the best known traditions of the country. Tea time in Morocco is AT ALL TIMES! Any shop, house, or place you enter will offer you a very sweet cup of mint tea, and it is very impolite to refuse it. When the tea is served, only the host must touch the teapot, so if you have finished yours and want some more, wait until it is offered, or ask for a little more, but don’t you dare to touch the teapot. And if it is your turn to be the hostess one day, the tea should be served first near the glass and then raise the teapot as much as possible without spilling a drop.

  • Arabic coffee: I am very manic with my coffee, I was pleasantly surprised with coffee in Morocco, they do it with spices, strong and with a touch of milk. Yummmm is perfect for a wake-up after a delicious lunch.

  • Eating with your hands: in many countries in Asia and Africa it is traditional to eat with your hands, and Morocco is no exception. You must do it with the right hand since the left is the impure hand, which is used to clean your intimate parts in the bathroom. Another important thing when eating, is just touching the portion that is in front of you on the large plate where they all share, the rest of the plate belongs to another person. Help yourself with the bread that will never be missing from the table, try to use your three middle fingers as a portable spoon. At first it can be difficult, but if you get used to it you will love it.

  • Traditional Hammam: The traditional hammam started in the Roman and Turkish times because this was the only place where people could take a hot bath. That doesn’t happen anymore, but it is considered more than ever as a meeting place. The Hamman is not like our spas; in it the women gather weekly to talk and exchange weekly stories. They go with their children, and they get an escape from the life at home. There was a time when it became a legal cause of divorce if a man prevented his wife from going to the hamman. Sometimes you can see sick women being looked after by friends or family so they can have a good bath. It is a place of feminine camaraderie, and a lot of nakedness of body and soul, in a generally repressed world. It is a beautiful experience to see how a tribe of women support and help each other. Some hammams can be rented for a group of friends, and of course when you go to the modern or more western Hamman, although it keeps the practice of hot steam bath, water bowls, and exfoliation with black soap made of olive oil and vegetable soybeans, and the famous kessa glove, - knitted and strong glove special to leave your skin like that of a newborn - add the luxury and silence with which Westerners feel more comfortable.

  • The Muslim's hospitality to strangers is a tradition: According to the Koran as well as the Hindu religion, a stranger is an envoy of God, so you must open your house and share your food with anyone who comes to your home in any way. That is why hospitality in this country is very great; Don’t be surprised if the boy from the store suddenly invites you to eat at his family's house. You will especially feel this in the smaller towns and among the most humble people. As it usually happens, is always harder to travel in the city.

  • The tourist is like a dollar symbol: Because of the amount of tourists that Morocco receives a year has increased, welcoming them has become a little tricky; only an experienced tourist might be able to know when the cost is a scam or is simply paying the normal extra as anywhere else in the world. The best thing is not to get frustrated and learn to take it. Be firm and clear in your requests including the no! If you want it, learn to bargain, it will be necessary and even fun.

  • Western women and the local: Always maintain a respectful but distant interaction, you do not want to confuse the locals. For the local men, foreign women are certainly desirable, because in their own country the possibility of romantic encounters before marriage are quite scarce, so keep this always in mind and try to avoid uncomfortable moments to be too "friendly" in a society where men are not used to see that in the women's behavior. Do not judge, just keep it in mind. My recommendation for travelers who are alone: leave the romance for the return home, I know stories with happy endings, but many more with disastrous endings.

  • Bargaining: If you want to have a successful commercial life in Morocco, the best thing you can do is start learning the art of bargaining. Make your poker face, give your price, make sure it is 60% less than what you have been offered, and do not pay more than 40% of the original price. This can take time, and if you really want something, just leave the place! If they follow you, you know that you can still negotiate the price, if they let you go, it is really the price they gave you the final price, if you want to be sure do this twice before buying.

Traditions to follow
  • Clothing: Morocco, despite being one of the most modern countries within the Muslim community, remains very conservative. In Lilith's Travel one of the things we are looking for is to live our trip as a local, as much as possible. So a transcendental part of this experience will be to leave aside our Western clothes and dare to use the beautiful Moroccan chilabas instead. The variety of prices and quality suits all pockets and styles. Not only will you be able to experience something new, you will also feel much more comfortable this way, respecting the tradition of the host country, and feeling much less hot, since your clothes are designed for the weather.

  • Hijab - Covering our heads: Another important tradition in this culture for women is to cover their heads as a sign of modesty and respect. Our mission is to make our travelers live something really unique, and open our horizons, getting some knowledge and understanding between cultures and religions. That is why we ask our travelers to experience during our time in the country, from the most traditional way of using the Hijab to fun, modern and fashion ways of doing it. Although at the beginning it may seem an imposition to your lifestyle, in the end you will enjoy it, and the photos of your trip will be like no other!

Transportation

To save time, during our trip we will be transported in a private van. There are thousands of ways to move around the country, from the bus, to the train, but without a doubt the private car will give us a lot of independence and flexibility.

Accomodation

In hotel or Riads in double occupancy rooms. Nomad camp in the desert.

Food

Although Morocco is not necessarily a culinary city, you can taste excellent traditional dishes in each region, such as Tajín (stew), Couscous and Pastilla or Bastilla.

Traditionally, these foods are eaten by hand using bread as the only side. The use of cutlery in the most crowded places by tourists is also popular.
